Ralph McTell marks the centenary of the Unknown Soldier

Make a donation

Singer-songwriter Ralph McTell has recorded a work of poetry and song to mark the centenary of the interment of the Unknown Soldier at Westminster Abbey.

McTell, who is best known for his song Streets of London, recorded The Unknown Soldier during lockdown. The song features orchestral contributions from the South Bank Sinfonia as well as poetry recitals from Sir Billy Connolly, Sir Anthony Hopkins and Liam Neeson.

The song has been created as a tribute to the Armed Forces community and provided to The Royal British Legion to help raise funds for this year's Poppy Appeal

It is also now available to download on Amazon, Spotify and Apple Music, with all profits being donated to the Royal British Legion.

The Unknown Soldier

Covid-19 and the national lockdown has meant that this year’s Poppy Appeal has been challenging.

Donating online as part of the Poppy Appeal is now crucial to supporting veterans, Forces personnel and their families who have served and sacrificed throughout the generations.

If you can, please make your donation to the 2020 Poppy Appeal, whether it is a one-off donation or a  regular gift.

Please donate what you can. This year, your donations are more vital than ever.
